Delegation from Mombetsu, Japan visit the Rotary Club of Newport

The Rotary Club of Newport, Oregon was honored to welcome a delegation from our Sister City, Mombetsu, during the May 14, 2026 meeting.

Newport and Mombetsu (pronounced “mom-bets”), Japan have shared a special Sister City relationship since 1966. Over the past six decades, this partnership has created lasting friendships, meaningful cultural exchanges, and strong connections between the two communities. The program continues to provide opportunities for learning, understanding, and international goodwill that are deeply valued by both Newport and Mombetsu.

Congratulations to Newport Rotarian Aimee Thompson on being honored with the District 5110 “Superstar Rotarian Award” for 2026. Aimee, who will serve as next year’s President of the Rotary Club of Newport, is deeply involved in numerous Rotary initiatives and volunteer efforts throughout the Newport community.
