Today was our 50th Zoom meeting with 35 members in attendance. President Saxton announced that next week's meeting will be the 1st hybrid meeting taking place at the Agate Beach Best Western. The club will continue the Zoom option for members not attending the in-person meeting. Today's guest speakers were the April Students of the Month Bryan Velazquez-Olivera and Danika Simon. Both students gave impressive speeches talking about their high school accomplishments and their future plans. Good luck to these excellent students!!

Today was our 49th Zoom meeting with 30 members in attendance. President Freddy Saxton introduced Connie Battles as a new member. Welcome to our club, Connie!!. Freddy also shared some photos of our youth cleaning up local beaches with the help from donations from this club. Today's speaker was John Mathers from the Rotary Climate Action Team. John gave an excellent presentation on the climate crisis, its practical economic reality and the various solutions Rotary supports.

Today's guest speaker was Florence Pourtal, Deputy Director of Lincoln County Public Health. Florence described how the county has responded to COVID-19. Thanks for your work!!

Today was our 47th Zoom meeting with 31 members in attendance. President Saxon gave some exciting news that the club will be going to "hybrid" meetings starting on May 6th. Meetings will be held at the Agate Beach Best Western with an optional $15.00 boxed lunch. Meetings will continued to be held on Zoom for those members that would rather attend the meetings on-line. Also, we will continue to offer the meetings on our YouTube channel to watch anytime. President Saxton also mentioned that the club will donate $2,000 to Meals on Wheels which will be matched by a District 5110 grant. Good job Newport Rotarians. Today's guest speaker was Newport Rotarian Keith Nelson who described all of the good work of the Rotary Foundation.

Today was our 45th Zoom meeting with 29 members present. President Saxton announced that Rotary International has decided to suspend the Youth Exchange program through June 2022 due to continued uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic world-wide. Lincoln County Sheriff Curtis Landers was today's program. Sheriff Landers gave an update on his department and how COVID-19 has impacted public safety.

Today was our 44th Zoom meeting with 28 members present. President Saxton reminded members of the 2021 Club Training Assembly on May 15th and three Newport Rotarians volunteered to be on a District Governor Search Committee; Sonia Graham, Jim Walker and Mark Miranda. Today's program were the March Students of the Month: Kylie Carver and Hannah Driebergen. Both are impressive students and will do well in college.

4-Way Test Speech Contest
Today was our 43rd Zoom meeting with 31 members in attendance. Today's guest was Kylie Carver. President Saxton announced it has been a full year since our last in-person meeting at the Agate Beach Best Western. It has been a challenging year and our world has changed tremendously in one year. Today's program was the annual 4-Way Test Speech Contest. Contestants were NHS sophomore Samiha Mamood and NHS senior Daisy O'Hearn. The judges awarded Daisy O'Hearn 1st place and Samiha Mahmoud 2nd place. Both students gave powerful speeches and will represent the club at the district level.

Today was our 42nd Zoom meeting with 34 members in attendance. Today's guests were the March Students of the Month and Major Raymond Erickson-King of the local Salvation Army. President Saxton announced that over $450 was raised last week to provide supplies for future beach clean-ups. Good job Rotarians!! It was also announced that Richard O'Hearn has earned a Paul Harris Fellow. Thanks Richard for you generous donations!! Today's guest speaker was Dr. Lesley Ogden. She gave an informative update on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout for Lincoln County.

Today was our 41st Zoom meeting with 32 members in attendance. Today's guest were NHS students Braylon Belloni and Alexa Saxton. Braylon described how several NHS students are cleaning our beaches weekly. Many Rotarians donated money to help their cause. Good job students and Rotarians!! President Saxton officially welcomed two new members to the club: Brian Gardner and Gretchen Havner. Welcome to the Rotary Club of Newport!! Today was our 40th Zoom meeting with 35 members in attendance. Today's guests were the February Students of the Month, Katie Hartsell and Morgan Hanna. President Saxton announced Newport Rotarian Guy Faust has earned his Paul Harris +5. Thanks for your generous donations!! Freddy also announced that there will be no regular meeting next week at noon. Instead, a Zoom "Happy Hour" will start at 6:00, Thursday night. Today's speaker was Rob Murphy, Chief of the Newport Fire Department. Chief Murphy gave an interesting update on how the department provides public safety during these challenging times.

Today was our 34th Zoom meeting and the last meeting for 2020. 33 Rotary members were present. President Saxton recounted all the projects and donations the Rotary Club of Newport made this year and Sylvia Pauly gave an update on the coat drive for needy children. Today's program were the December Students of the Month Lexi Geampa and Jori Gonzales. Both students gave outstanding speeches and are impressive students at Newport High.

President Freddy Saxton announced that Aimee Thompson achieved a Paul Harris Fellow. Thanks Aimee!! President Saxton announced the board voted to give $1,000 to Grace Wins Haven and the Olalla Center. Diane Nelson announced the Social via Zoom on Friday with the Rotary Club of Corvallis and Sylvia Pauly talked about Newport Rotarians volunteering for bell-ringing for the Salvation Army on December 12th and 19th. Today's program was Aslan Noakes from Oregon State University describing their COVID-19 TRACE program and her experiences helping the people of Haiti.

Today was our 30th Zoom meeting with 33 members in attendance. Today's guest was November Student of the Month Daisy O'Hearn. President Saxton described the Vocational Lunch that occurred this week and that Diane Nelson is planning a future social Zoom event with the Rotary Club of Corvallis. Today's program was led by Angie Perez, PhD, Senior Toxicologist for CTEH. She explained steps businesses can employ to ensure business continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Perez shared lots of useful information to keep businesses open during these challenging times.

President Saxton announced that the club is leaning to a January 7th, 2021 date to resume in-person meetings at Agate Beach Best Western and also continue the Zoom meeting component for members that would like to continue meeting on-line. Today's program was Doug Brusa, Director of Development for Marine programs at Oregon State University who gave an update on all the exciting marine studies that are happening at OSU. Today's program were the October Students of the Month M'Kenzie Kirchner and Cole Wiles. These two students are impressive!! Also, Lincoln County School District Superintendent Dr. Karen Gray gave an update on how the district is dealing with the impact of COVID-19.

President Saxton announced that six Rotary Clubs, including Newport, partnered together and raised $18,525 for Meals on Wheels. Well done Rotarians!! The club also planned for a future project to landscape the Habitat for Humanity property in Newport. Today's program was new member Jeff Lichtman sharing his life story and how he made it to Newport. Interesting story!!

Spencer described the impact of COVID-19 on the city of Newport, the water filter issue and how the City of Newport helped the county during the wildfires.

President Saxton announced that today is Rotary's World Polio Day and described the role of Rotary in combating this disease. Today's program were the September Students of the Month Jillian Thompson and Ben Wiese. Jillian plans to attend Oregon State University and study an area in the medical field and Ben will study mechanical engineering. Good luck to these excellent students!!

President Saxton described to the group the District 5110 Wildfire Fund being set up to help victims of the recent fires. Today's program was General Manager of Ripley's Believe It or Not, Dave Heater. Dave described the remodel of the facility and the decommissioning of the Undersea Gardens.

Today was our 21st Zoom meeting with 29 members in attendance. President Saxton and members discussed the volunteer work occurring, as the wild fires roar through Lincoln County. Good job Rotarians!! Today's program was Robin Murphy from Oregon Coast Glassworks in Newport. Robin described what Oregon Coast Glassworks has to offer in the world of glass. Robin also talked about the challenges of running a business during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today was our 20th Zoom meeting with 33 members in attendance. Noémie Hermant from France was a guest. President Saxton announced that the board voted for meetings to continue via Zoom through October and the club has donated another $1,000 to Food Share for the month of September. Today's program was Dee Teem, Executive Director of the Olalla Center, who gave an update on all the services the center offers Lincoln County. What an amazing and vital organization for our county!!

Today's Program: Lincoln County Commissioner Doug Hunt
Today was our 19th Zoom meeting with 32 members in attendance. The club was shown a video introduced by President Saxton showing the eradication of polio in Africa. Great job Rotary International!! Today's program was presented by Lincoln County Commissioner and Newport Rotarian Doug Hunt. Commissioner Hunt described the county's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the processes they are following to make future decisions.

Rotary Club of Newport, Oregon meets via Zoom on August 20, 2020.
Today was our 18th Zoom meeting with 34 members in attendance. Today's guest was Michelle Goodrick from Corvallis. The club discussed the possibility of in-person meetings in October looking at the survey results from club members. The club will continue to look at all data before a decision is made. Today's program was City of Newport Chief of Police Jason Malloy. Chief Malloy gave an update on reforms police departments across the state including Newport, are implementing and challenges that face the department.

August 13, 2020- Regular Zoom Meeting
Rotary Club of Newport, Oregon meets via Zoom on August 13, 2020.
Today's Program: Nathan Perry describes the work of the Salvation Army.
Today was our 17th Zoom meeting with 26 members in attendance. President Saxton announced that in-person meetings are canceled through September and will send out a survey to see when members would be willing to attend in-person meetings. The club would still use Zoom to broadcast meetings so everyone can attend. Today's program was Nathan Perry of the local Salvation Army. Nathan described how the Salvation Army has provided vital COVID-19 relief assistance to over 2,200 individuals with close to 33,000 lbs of food distributed. Great work Salvation Army!!

Today's program: Kiera Morgan- Pacific Northwest News and Entertainment
Today was our 16th Zoom meeting with 36 members in attendance. Good job Newport Rotarians!! President Saxton announced that Rotary Club of Newport is donating $2,000 to Meals on Wheels to help people in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today's program was led by Kiera Morgan operator of Pacific Northwest News and Entertainment website. Kiera described the process of bringing the latest news to her audience.
Aimee Thompson gave the final instructions for the Rotary Club of Newport/SOLVE Beach Clean-Up this weekend. It was great to see John Baker with his first Zoom meeting!!

Today was our 15th Zoom meeting with 26 members in attendance. President Saxton recognized Keith and Diane Nelson for their financial donations achieving their Paul Harris +1. Thank you Keith and Diane!! Today's program was Lucinda Taylor of Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County. Lucinda gave an update of Habitat's work in Lincoln County with 14 homes now built in the county. Great work!!

Today's program: Food Share of Lincoln County Director Nancy Mitchell
Today was our 14th Zoom meeting with 32 members in attendance. Today's program was Nancy Mitchell, Director of Food Share of Lincoln County. Nancy shared that 1,800 households/4,000 individuals utilize the food provided by Food Share. Amazing!! The Rotary Club of Newport continues to support this vital resource during the COVID-19 crisis.

Rotary of Newport welcomes new member Jeff Lichtman!!
Today was our 13th Zoom meeting with 31 members in attendance. Good job Newport Rotarians!! Today's program was District Governor Cindi O'Neil. The District Governor talked about the importance of connecting with our community and and how vital that we continue our service to our area. Thanks Cindi for the great message!! The District Governor also honored two members as "Rotary Heroes", Ursula Marinelli and Sylvia Pauly, for their contributions on feeding the staff at the hospital. Congratulations!! President Saxton introduced new member Jeff Lichtman to the club. Welcome Jeff!!

Today was our 12th Zoom meeting with 34 members in attendance. President-Elect Richard O'Hearn led the meeting as President Saxton was away on business. Service Projects Chair Sylvia Pauly announced several service projects that members can perform during the summer months (see document below) and Aimee Thompson introduced the #fillabucket" challenge (see below). Today's program was presented by Oregon Coast Community College instructor Misty Lambrecht who talked about the challenges for small businesses during COVID-19.
